I'm a writer living in the Lake District and loving it. It's my corner of heaven and I wouldn't live anywhere else - well, actually I'd love to live a little nearer to Lincolnshire, the home county of the mighty Lancaster Bomber and Cambridge for the beautiful B-17 but we can't have everything. Having lived in three other regions of the country, I finally feel at home in my Cumbrian cottage.
After a career in health care, finally specialising in Midwifery, I left ten years ago because of family circumstances. Having some spare time at home I decided to study for a degree in English Literature and Creative Writing. It was the best thing I could have done because I finally realised my destiny, my purpose in life and that journey led me to where I am now - a writer.
History is my passion and writing historical fiction is a main part of my life. Other than that I love to read, watch quality films and walk. My children and dogs keep me busy and family life is naturally chaotic.
Why do I write? That's the simple part - because I have to. I'm fulfilling an instinct and bringing history to life is an integral part of my life's journey. Often it's difficult to explain but if I'm not writing, then it feels as if a part of me is missing. When I am writing, I have purpose.
At present I'm editing my second historical fiction novel set during the turbulent times of World War Two. My first novel resides in a drawer but I may be able to resurrect it in the near future. Meanwhile, I'm planning my third which is the sequel and it's very exciting to have ideas.
Both World Wars fascinate me and I have an intense fixation deeply rooted within aviation. Lancaster Bomber's, B-17's, B-24's, Spitfires and Hurricanes along with the amazing de Havilland Mosquito and the P-51 Mustang. My life-long ambition is to fly in a B-17 and a Lancaster bomber.
Some of the great writers who have influenced me include Pat Barker, Hilary Mantel, Sebastian Faulks, Ernest Hemingway and Chekhov.
