Promoting Authors
As a writer, I know that once I'm published it will be fantastic to have my fellow writer friends to assist me with promotion. However, one has to participate in this also. Recently I was invited to join an online group of writers, authors, reviewers. I never realised just how vibrant and diverse the group would be. More than that, I never realised just how many new friends I would make and that is the amazing thing. As writers, whether we are shy and retiring creatures of the pen or outgoing stars desperate to dazzle in the night sky, we can all communicate effectively online and form strong bonds.
We do this for various reasons. Mainly, we do it for friendship and support but also for promotion. Novelists, poets and short story writers among us, we all have our paths to follow and we all require a readership. Utilising social media has been something of a mini explosion for me over the last 4 months. My blog is busier. My twitter following has tripled and I now have more than five times as many friends on Facebook. I'm invited to events, both online and at venues and I'm talking with established novelists published by main house publishers as well as indie authors. It truly is a very interesting literary scene and one that writers can benefit greatly from.
So, the promotion part. I decided that as well as participating in book tours, book reviews and author interviews, I'm also going to showcase the free e-books I'm offered. I always publish such books on Facebook and twitter and in doing so I'm playing a small part. It's like helping someone cross the road. I only hope that once my novel is published, should I journey down the indie route, I'll have a fabulous group of people to hold my hand. So, here's the first book for today:
"Island Ghosts" by David Bane is available FREE on Amazon right now. There is no end date on this offer so I'm not sure how long it's open for.
It's a 3000 word short story and it's an introduction to the Will Castleton Stories which are continued in The Castleton Files and the forthcoming novel "Death Sight", due to be released in September 2012. It's definitely worth checking out and it might be free for some days to come. Please grab a copy and "like" the Amazon book page. Leaving a review, no matter how brief, would be fantastic also.
"The Earth is a Floating Sphere" is a collection of poems and stories by Casey Sean Harmon. This book made it to the best seller's list on Amazon.com within a few hours of its release. It's free right now on Amazon.com and UK, again I'm not sure how long the promotion runs for so be quick and grab a copy to download. Casey is also a serving US Soldier and I'm sure that his work will be very interesting and inspiring as well as emotive. Again, if you grab a copy, please be sure to "like" the page.
And finally, for a bit of classics reading, how about "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Bronte. This has been free on Amazon for ages. Got my copy a while ago and it's still free today. I'm currently engrossed in Heathcliffe and Cathy's doomed affair, out in the wilderness of the Yorkshire moors where I'm not supposed to be. I should be stuck in my own novel but enough said.
