A Memorable Year

What a month! Moving house near to Christmas is not a good idea -well, that's subjective of course but I'll never do it again. Only just managed to get ready for Christmas, although I still feel quite certain that I've forgotten something. Well, actually I still need to pop by my neighbours house and drop in a card. I received one from them yesterday with a lovely, warm welcome. Isn't it great to have nice, friendly people living near you? Out here it's rural although we're not far from the main town but everyone seems very friendly and pleasant so far - a great community.

In fact, it's not just at home where I've had the pleasure of meeting new people. The extraordinary world of social media has well and truly opened up to me in this past year, giving me the opportunity to make new acquaintances from all around the globe. I have some fabulous new friends, and ones who have gone out of their way to make me feel welcome, as well as helping me in various ways. I wish to thank you all -everyone on Facebook from my literary circles and from Bookblogs, Goodreads and all my followers.

I have only just managed to get back on track with my writing. Talk about painful -I came to a sticking point and was stuck. One of the strands in my novel was proving to be rather tricky, that was until I managed to talk with the most wonderful lady who had the experience I was looking for. She is presently 92 years of age with a memory as sharp as glass. Truly amazing and I'm so glad that she is enjoying good health into her old age. This lady used to be a member of the Women's Auxiliary Air Force during World War 2. Talking with her has freed up my writing. It's been very liberating and I feel very blessed and privileged to have had the opportunity. In fact, she has asked me to ring her again after Christmas, which I will do.

This brings me back to someone who recently told me I simply had to speak with veterans and listen to their stories. I'd never before had the opportunity to speak with a WAAF and now I have. It's fascinating to hear their stories and just listening to the tone of their voices -you sense the spirit they have grown old with, still there, bubbling beneath the surface, vying for any opportunity to escape. And it's a spirit I don't think later generations have No doubt it was a product of war and simply a different generation.

And so as I prepare to leave 2012 and begin 2013 I am sorry to be leaving certain social media activities, winding down my interests in particular groups. It's no use as I do not have the time. My writing is so important and deserves all of my free time from now on. I'll still have my presence here -this is my space and my journal of writing after all but the time has come to eradicate as many distractions as possible.
So I'd like to take the opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Have a lovely time and keep safe and warm, enjoy your holidays and enjoy spending time with family and friends.  God bless you all.
